In
1941, Petko Staynov is appointed Director of the National Opera,
which is then being artistically separated from the drama theater.
He contribute considerably to the enrichment of its repertoire with
Bulgarian works and to arranging the guest-performances of outstanding
foreign directors and conductors.
Petko Staynov is the co-founder in 1933, the first and permanent
chairman until 1944 Society of Bulgarian Composers “Contemporary
Music”, which works actively and devotedly to popularize the creative
work of Bulgarian composers, to defend their professional interests
and to guarantee competent musicap leadership of the National Opera.

In
1947, when the new Union of Composers and Musicologist (later the
Union of Bulgarin Composers) is established, Petko Staynov is elected,
and re-elected repeatedly until his death, a member of the Presidium
of the Union; he participates actively in all its initiatives and
represents it to a number of international events.
