In his quality of one of the outstanding musical public figures
in the country, Petko Staynov associated his name with the establishment
of folk choirs, which in the first half of 20-th century formed
one of the centers of our musical culture. In 1928, he is elected
member of the leadership of the Union of Folk Choirs in Bulgaria
and Chairman of “Native Land” Choir. Five years later he becomes
Chairman of the Union of Folk Choirs and begins his work devoted
to the organizational unity and financial support of the folk choirs,
to the enrichment of their repertoire, to the elevation of the artistic
level of their performances. |
Petko Staynov’s intense and diverse work after the Second World
War in support of the amateu art activities is a natural continuation
to his devotion to the cause of folk choirs. (Initiator, organizer,
member of juries at fairs, festivals, and reviews of folk art and
amateur vocal, instrumental and dance art, he steadfastly defends
the right of self-government of the amateur art activities.)
He is always in the midst of the musical world, to listen to the
performance of a choir, of a folk ensemble, in Gorna Djumaya, Rozhen,
Koprivshtitsa.
