Petko Srtaynov’s first attempts at composing date from his years
of studies at the Institute for the Blind and continue successfully
after his return to his native town. Two works from Staynov’s youth
creative period have permanently entered the choir musical literature,
namely Chrismas Carols Singers and I Dreamt a Dream. |
"Having jotted down the draft of the musical idea and made
notes in Braille, I then dictate the musical lines to my wife, who
also plays the piano. She is my most valuable assistant.” P. Staynov,
1935.
Before the marriage, this most valuable assistant is brother Zahari,
while in the ‘30s and ‘40s, Prof. Atanas Gurdev.
From 1923 to the early’30s, Petko Staynov performs actively as a
pianist, first in Germany, then in Sofia and throughout Bulgaria.
He is recognised as one of the outstanding performers of Beethoven.
"Petko Staynov plays in perpetual darkness, but that remains
unseen for the listener, because he creates light!. His performance
is of a virtuoso pianist of foremost magnitude”. “Yug” newspaper,
Plovdiv, No. 1607, 11 June 1924.
