From 1915 to 1920 Petko Staynov resides in his home town. He participates
actively in the musical life of Kazanluk. He becomes the conductor
of a mixed choir, performing songs by Dobri Hristov, Dimitar Hadjigeorgiev
and Alexander Krustev, as well as by foreign composers. Together
with the violinist Ivan Bonev, who is to become a lifelong friend,
he performs Mozart’s and Beethoven’s sonatas. During this periods
he creates his first compositions. |

In 1920, Petko Staynov leaves for Germany with the intent to continue
his musical education. He studies in Braunschweig, at the Dr. Mencke’s
Private Musical Lyceum, and at Rozanovski. Private Music Conservatory.
In 1923 he graduates from the Dresden Musical Conservatory, majoring
in composition under Alexander Wolf and in piano under Ernst Munch.
This is where he composes works of importance based on Bulgarian
melodies. |
